Overview
5 Days Mount Kenya Trek: Chogoria to Sirimon Route
Experience a complete Mount Kenya traverse to Point Lenana, combining the spectacular Chogoria ascent with the classic Sirimon descent.
The 5 Days Mount Kenya Trek Chogoria Sirimon Route is designed for hikers who want to experience more than a single route. Instead, this itinerary creates a complete traverse across Mount Kenya, allowing you to enjoy changing landscapes, high-altitude scenery and a sunrise summit attempt.
First, the Chogoria side introduces you to forest, bamboo, open moorland, dramatic valleys and mountain lakes. As you gain altitude, the scenery becomes increasingly alpine. Furthermore, the route provides excellent opportunities for photography and nature observation along the way.
After reaching the high camps, the trek continues toward Point Lenana, Mount Kenya’s trekking summit. Early on summit morning, you begin before sunrise so that, conditions permitting, you can reach the summit around first light. Finally, the descent via Sirimon provides a different perspective of the mountain before your transfer off the mountain.
Why Choose the Chogoria–Sirimon Traverse?
Nairobi → Chogoria Gate → Meru Bandas → Lake Ellis → Mintos / high camp → Point Lenana → Shipton’s Camp → Old Moses Camp → Sirimon Gate → Nairobi.
What Makes This 5-Day Trek Special?
Unlike a standard out-and-back mountain itinerary, this Chogoria–Sirimon trek allows you to experience different environments on the ascent and descent. Therefore, every trekking day brings a new landscape and a different view of Mount Kenya.
Moreover, the trek is focused on Point Lenana, which is the principal trekking summit. Batian and Nelion are higher, but they involve technical climbing and should not be treated as ordinary trekking objectives.
Because altitude is an important part of any Mount Kenya adventure, your guide will monitor the group throughout the trek. In addition, the walking pace can be adjusted according to the group’s condition, weather and trail conditions.
What’s Included?
Exact inclusions, accommodation arrangements and transport details should be confirmed with Elegant Wild Safaris before booking, particularly because mountain access and camping arrangements can vary according to park requirements and current operating conditions.
