Best time to visit mt kilimanjaro?

Trekking on Kilimanjaro year-round is very possible. However, from June to March is known to be the best time for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro where April and May are known to be wet seasons. Therefore, it’s not an ideal but still possible period for Mount Kilimanjaro climbing. August to October is also the best months to climb Kilimanjaro; but you’ll find the highest traffic during August and September because of the summer holidays. When confined to a trekking date in April or May, tourists are encouraged to hike using the Rongai route which departs from the Northern side of M.t Kilimanjaro and is generally considered drier than the Southern route. Two distinct seasons that constitute the best time to climb M.t Kilimanjaro are January to March and March to October. January to March months, being colder compared with June to October provide tourists with a higher probability of encountering snow at the peak of this exotic mountain. For the tourists arriving from N. America and Europe, hiking M.t Kilimanjaro around June to October is ideal as this season coincides with the summer season in these respective countries. Extroverts with a taste for Safari and adventure will find this particular period of the year appealing as it’s the busiest, compared with January to March which are quieter. Tourists with a desire to hike M.t Kilimanjaro and living in different climatic conditions from Europe, March, April and November are the wettest months, hence not ideal for trekking. Day 1 :

📍 Day 1: Moshi/Arusha – Machame Gate – Machame Camp

Our team collects you early from your hotel for the drive to Machame Gate. Subsequently, complete your official park registration details smoothly.

Begin your trekking adventure by walking through a lush, dense tropical rainforest. The trail can be quite muddy, so trekking poles are highly recommended. Finally, arrive safely at Machame Camp for dinner.

Elevation: 1,640m to 2,835m

Distance: 11 km

Trek Time: 5–6 hours

Day 2 :

📍 Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp

Savor a warm breakfast before leaving the dense forest canopy behind you today. Subsequently, your group enters the striking heath and alpine moorland zone.

You will cross steep rocky ridges before reaching the sweeping volcanic Shira Plateau. Next, enjoy beautiful panoramic evening views facing the mountain peak. Spend the night at Shira Camp.

Trek Time: 4–5 hours

Day 3 :

📍 Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Today's trek is highly critical for your high-altitude acclimatization process. First, we ascend steadily toward the towering volcanic Lava Tower formation.

Subsequently, we descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley to rest for the evening. This strategic walk perfectly follows the proven "climb high, sleep low" rule.

Elevation: 3,750m to High Point: 4,650m to End: 3,960m

Day 4 :

📍 Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Enjoy an early breakfast layout before tackling the famous, towering Barranco Wall scramble. Subsequently, our guides navigate your group safely over the rugged ridge lines.

We traverse scenic alpine valleys until we reach our destination camp. This short hiking day serves as your extra built-in acclimatization window.

Trek Time: 4–5 hours

Day 5 :

📍 Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Check out of your scenic valley campsite after a hearty morning meal. Subsequently, we begin a short but steep alpine climb toward Barafu Camp.

This high location serves as your official summit basecamp before the final push. Next, settle into your tents early to rest and prepare for the midnight ascent.

Day 6 :

📍 Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Our team wakes you up at midnight with hot tea. Subsequently, begin your challenging, steep summit push up loose volcanic scree.

Reach Stella Point on the crater rim just as dawn begins breaking beautifully. Next, push onward to achieve Uhuru Peak exactly at sunrise. Finally, descend steadily to Mweka Camp for your final night.

Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m (Summit) down to 3,110m

Distance: 17 km

Trek Time: 10–14 hours

Day 07 :

📍 Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi/Arusha

Savor your final mountain breakfast while celebrating your incredible physical achievement. Subsequently, descend steadily through the lush, emerald green rainforest paths.

Arrive back safely at the main Mweka Gate by midday. Next, collect your official gold summit certificate from the park authorities. Finally, our driver transfers your group back to Arusha.
